Job Description

To assist in the provision of high quality customer across Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Library & Museums Service.



To work with library colleagues at The Forum: Southend to assist in the delivery of an efficient and effective library service.



To provide a welcoming reception to all visitors, help to meet their needs and ensure a high quality and enjoyable experience



To be the first point of contact for all visitors, providing support and helping them with their enquiries in a friendly and helpful manner



To update information files and reference material as necessary.



To provide support to colleagues, as directed by your line manager, in the preparation and operation of facilities for exhibitions, workshops and events.



To handle sales and cash, including till reconciliations, re-stocking shops, checking stock deliveries and recording and securing income as appropriate.



To undertake all day to day library duties, including using the ELAN computer system and other IT systems; to carry out associated clerical routines.



To sort material for return to the shelves having regard to its age and physical condition; to shelve returned material and place it in order on the shelves.



To oversee the use of photocopiers, faxes and other equipment and ensure copyright declaration forms are completed and associated clerical duties are carried out.



To assist curatorial, education, marketing and conservation colleagues in a general capacity, including assisting with interpretation and education activities, and with collection and conservation activities including collection maintenance procedures.



To collect visitor numbers, statistics and suggestions from the public as part of an integrated approach to gathering and sharing information and getting to know visitors and their needs.
Personal Qualities : We are looking for someone to develop into the role but with some life experience, so as long as the person has good communication skills (verbal) and is comfortable with working with computers that would be a good start.

Future Prospects : Will gain experience of working within a state of the art Library and Museum. You will also gain a nationally recognised Customer Service Level 2 qualification
