Company Details

GSK (GlaxoSmithKline plc) is a global pharmaceuticals and healthcare organisation. The British company was founded in 2000 when SmithKline Beecham merged with GlaxoWellcome and is one of the top ten largest pharmaceutical companies in the world.

GSK discovers, develops, manufactures and distributes lifesaving prescription medicines, vaccines and popular consumer products such as Beechams, Sensodyne, Savlon and Panadol. Every year they screen millions of compounds and make billions of packs of medicines and consumer healthcare products. The size and scope of GSK’s organisation allows their people to answer some of the worlds biggest questions – questions about future healthcare needs and questions about building a responsive, transparent business to meet them. GSK are committed to widening access to our products, so more people can benefit, no matter where they live in the world or what they can afford to pay.

GSK has its headquarters in Brentford, West London but has operations across 18 locations around the United Kingdom. The company employs around 100,000 people worldwide and has approximately 16,000 employees in the UK alone.

GSK has a number of career options for students and other young people who want to work with a leading name in the pharmaceuticals and healthcare industries.

Undergraduates can gain some wonderful experience across various areas of the GSK business (eg. Engineering, Finance, Science, Procurement, IT) with either a 8 to 12 week summer placement or a year-long industrial placement.

Graduates can become one of GSK’s Future Leaders on their graduate programme, or, in collaboration with Strathclyde University, study for their PhD Programme.
An entry level route into the prestigious GSK business for school or college leavers is to earn a place on one of their many and varied apprenticeships. These apprenticeships will see you earning money, gaining qualifications and learning hands-on in a genuine job role at GSK, all at the same time.

GSK has the following diverse range of apprenticeships which you can choose from:

• Business & Supply Chain Apprenticeship
• Engineering Apprenticeship
• Finance Apprenticeship
• IT Apprenticeships
• Laboratory Apprenticeship
• Manufacturing Apprenticeship
• Pharmaceutical Technical Apprenticeship
• Project Management

Most of GSK’s apprenticeships start each September and applications opened on the 17th of October for the majority of their programmes

Offering just a handful of reasons why you would benefit from being a GSK apprentice, the company’s careers site says:

“An apprenticeship with GSK will give you hands-on experience in your chosen discipline and the opportunity to play a key role in contributing to the future success of the company. While you learn on-the-job (and earn a competitive salary), you will study towards a nationally recognised qualification, which could lead to an honours degree or post-graduate qualification.”
