Company Details

The Hungry Horse chain of pubs was founded in 1995 and has grown to a stable of more than 200 public houses in England, Scotland and Wales.

Hungry Horse serves good value pub grub and a variety of ales, 7 days a week. They are famous for their Big Plate Specials, such as the Chicken Tikka ‘Titan’ Naan, Gigantic Gammon, the The Triple Rib Stacker, the 20oz Megasaurus Steak and the Full Monty Mixed Grill.

The Hungry Horse chain is owned by the Greene King Brewery and there are a number of full or part time jobs which students can do if they have a pub near where you are studying.

Hungry Horse pub job descriptions include back and front of house Retail Team Members (bartenders, waiters and kitchen staff etc.), Kitchen Managers, Retail Assistant Managers and Retail Managers.

You are more than likely going to start out as a Retail Team Member, and, for those roles, Hungry Horse doesn’t have a centralised recruitment process - so you can just pop in to your local and have a chat with the manager about any potential vacancies. Even if there’s nothing going at the moment, if you make a good impression, they might get back to you if a vacancy comes up in the future. You can check if there’s a Hungry Horse within easy reach of you by using the brand’s pub locator.

Explaining what sort of people Hungry Horse looks for and what they can offer their employees in return, the company’s careers site says:

“We’re always on the lookout for fun, friendly, polite, passionate people who love pubs and amazing their guests with fantastic service. We’re a fun and vibrant brand which is really going places! We can offer a challenging, yet rewarding environment and a supportive team. We pride ourselves on the culture of our teams and helping everyone to bring the best out in one another to deliver amazing service to our guests.”

Have a quick look at the Hungry Horse training video that we’ve added to the top right of this page, and check out the Facebook updates from the pub chain just below it. Those should hopefully give you a good idea of the Hungry Horse brand - and what it might be like to work for the company.

If there’s no Hungry Horse in your neck of the woods then there should be other options for similar work available to you as a student in the area. Find out more by reading our guide to bar jobs and restaurant jobs in the UK.
