DFS has been making and selling sofas in the UK for over 40 years. In addition to leather sofas, fabric sofas, corner sofas and recliners, DFS also retails in a range of beds and dining furniture. The company has become Europe’s leading sofa specialist, and has plenty of jobs on offer within its stores, factories and at its head office in Doncaster.

The company started out in a small way when founder, Graham Kirkham (now Lord Kirham), who had taken a job in a local furniture shop, thought he could make his own products instead and deal directly with the public rather them having to go through middle men. He began to knock up his own furniture in a rented space above a snooker hall in Doncaster in 1969 and, by shortening the retail chain, he sold it to the people of Yorkshire cheaper.

DFS has since grown into a chain of around 100 stores in the United Kingdom and employs over 2,500 people in full and part time jobs in the retail sector. The chain is now owned by a private equity firm, Advent International, which bought DFS in 2010.

There are over 10 DFS outlets in London alone - and further 80 or so throughout the rest of England. You can also find a DFS in many parts of Scotland, including Glasgow and Edinburgh.
