Company Details

Premier Inn branded hotels are owned by Whitbread, the biggest hospitality company in the United Kingdom. The Premier Inn budget hotel chain also runs accommodation in Ireland, India and the United Arab Emirates.

Premier Inn itself is the UK’s biggest hotel chain, with over 650 budget-priced properties and more than 50,000 hotel rooms for guests to choose from. The hotel chain is, in fact, Whitbread’s biggest earner, with around 70p in every £1 of their revenues coming from Premier Inn.

The company has been around since the late 1980s and has its head offices in Luton, Bedfordshire. Originally dubbed ‘Travel Inn’, the chain became known as ‘Premier Travel Inn’ when over 100 Premier Lodge hotels were acquired by Whitbread in 2004. The current, more concise, name was adopted three years later.

You stand most chance of finding a full or part time hotel job with Premier Inn if you are studying somewhere near a city centre, as many of their hotels are situated in very central areas. A good way to narrow down your options is to use the Premier Inn hotel finder to find out where your nearest job hunting locations are.

With so many hotels, and with all of them featuring an on-site restaurant, there is no end of variety to the sort of work students could find at a local Premier Inn. Their jobs website (see link below) says:

“We have a range of operational management, team member, team leader or business support roles available for either existing or new hotel openings, ranging from Cluster General Manager to Team Member, from Operations Graduate to Apprentice and from New Openings Manager to Customer Contact Centre Advisor. Based either in one of our hotels, field based or at one of our Support Centre locations in Dunstable, these roles are varied and rewarding.”

For full and part time jobs within the hotels themselves, Premier Inn advise that you contact the hotel directly to see what current opportunities are available. For management and graduate positions you should make applications via the Whitbread website.

Hotels often take on more staff in the run up to Christmas and over New Year as people take holidays for the festive period, and Premier Inn are no exception to the rule. So, if it’s temporary work you are interested in then you should see if Premier Inn are recruiting in larger numbers where you are studying during the end of the year. (You can check our latest Christmas jobs page for any current vacancies that might be on offer).

There isn’t much point wasting time making an application to Premier Inn for a hotel job unless you are willing to put on a smile for the public (no matter how you might be feeling yourself!).

Jobs like these, where the success of the business depends heavily on the staff that guests come into contact with, demand high levels of friendliness, politeness, helpfulness and general all-round customer service skills. So make sure you pick out the relevant parts of your skill set and character traits in your application to put yourself in with the best chance of securing a hotel job with Premier Inn.
