Along with Odeon Cinemas and Cineworld, Vue Cinemas is one of the biggest cinema chains in the United Kingdom. With over 80 cinema locations, 750 screens and more than 35 million cinema-goers to entertain each year, there is plenty of work for students and graduate to track down at Vue Cinemas in the UK.

In one form or another, Vue Cinemas has been around since 2003, when it was founded by Timothy Richards and Alan McNair. It has made a number of acquisitions since those early days when it had just 38 cinemas. It was itself sold by private equity firm Doughty Hanson & Co in June 2013 to OMERS and Alberta Investment Management, two Canadian concerns.

Worldwide, the Vue brand is even bigger - in total it boasts over 1,800 cinema screens at almost 200 cinemas in the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Germany, Portugal and Taiwan.

With around 20 cinemas in London and over half of the UK population living or studying within half an hour’s drive of a Vue venue, there is a good chance that job vacancies will be available not too far away from you.

Vue Cinemas offer both temporary and permanent jobs, so it doesn’t matter too much whether you are looking for a part time job, some holiday work or a full time career with the company.

Positions available at Vue range from customer assistants and team leaders right up to managerial roles within their cinemas.

A typical working shift at Vue for a customer assistant could include selling tickets to films, serving refreshments and showing customers to their seats.

Customer assistants are usually the front face of the Vue cinema-going experience so you will need to show your credentials as a strong customer services candidate when you apply for any current vacancies. Other valuable traits in this sort of cinema job role are friendliness, enthusiasm, a fun-loving nature and a professional manner

Hourly pay rates for customer assistants at Vue are competitive, and, if you can handle responsibility and move up to team leader or a full managerial role then you can obviously expect much higher wages. To help their employees develop and move upwards through the company ranks, Vue has four different training programmes which are available to all members of staff.

Graduates or other young people who are looking for permanent cinema jobs should also consider the Vue Head Office at Chiswick in West London. Job descriptions there include opportunities in Finance, Film Buying, Operations, Legal, Retail, Property & Development, Human Resources, Marketing, Sales and IT.

Some of the perks of the job at Vue Cinemas include free cinema tickets, up to 33 days off each year and discounts on food and drinks.
