Company Details

Gap is a fashion retail company that was created in 1969 in San Francisco in the USA by Doris and Don Fisher. Today, Gap is one of the largest clothing retail companies in the world and the Fisher family still have a strong interest in the company with Doris and son, Robert J. Fisher, taking leading roles within the firm. Co founder, Don Fisher, passed away in 2009 but he coined what the company is all about when he said:

“I created Gap with a simple idea; to make it easier to find a pair of jeans. We remain committed to that basic principle.”

Gap specialises in casual fashion that is of high quality and there are stores globally, as well as an online shopping option. In the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, there are over 5,500 staff working for the company and over 150 stores selling Gap, GapKids and babyGap brands.

As you might expect from a company of its size, there could be a whole variety of jobs and careers at Gap. For young people looking for student jobs, part time opportunities and other similar entry level jobs, there could be options for working in Gap stores as sales and operations associates. Store management and visual merchandising could suit those with an interest in graduate careers in fashion retail, for example.

If working in store with the general public is not the type of role that might suit you, head office careers could also be worth considering as well as working in distribution. Head office Gap jobs can be related to fashion retail such as working in buying. Other head office roles might be in HR, IT or finance, to name just a few roles. Because Gap is an international company, there might be an opportunity to work with overseas staff in some roles.

Because Gap specialise in quality fashion retail, they are always looking for future team members who can contribute to and continue the development of the firm. If you are committed to creativity, excellence, exploration and teamwork, then Gap jobs coıld be right up your street. Gap is all about cool and casual and, as they themselves say, Gap is not just a great place to join, it’s also a great place to stay. Gap jobs could be very rewarding for, whether it’s part time jobs or full time careers you are looking for. Gap provide ongoing training and development for staff so even if you begin with entry level jobs with the company, there could be scope to build on your knowledge and training and gain promotion to more senior roles if this is what you are looking for.

Gap is a global company based in the USA and the company continues to expand internationally with stores in countries including Australia, Turkey, Italy and China, as well as across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. In the United Kingdom, the Gap head offices are based in Mayfair in London in the company flagship stores. The European distribution and other support departments such as IT and finance are based in Rugby while Gap stores, naturally, are based in cities and towns across the UK. This means students and school leavers looking for retail jobs could find Gap jobs local to where they are living or studying.

Rather than having set recruitment dates for particular roles Gap recruit staff to work for the company on an ongoing basis, as and when vacancies arise. As a fashion retail company, seasonal jobs such as Christmas jobs could come up as busy periods occur throughout the year. Because many stores are situated in large shopping centres, a variety of in store shifts might be available, meaning there could be something to suit you if you are looking for student jobs to fit around studies and other commitments.

If you are interested in retail fashion jobs - whether that’s part time entry level jobs or full time retail jobs and careers - or you would like to work in a fast moving, international environment in head office roles, Gap could be an ideal company to work for. Why not check out if there are stores close to you or vacancies to suit your skills on the Gap website, or by taking a look at vacancies below, and you could soon be working in a rewarding fashion retail environment.
