Former students looking for graduate jobs in London may be happy to hear that law is a popular career choice for non-law graduates, it has been reported.

After studying on a graduate diploma in law conversion course, those with no formal legal training can start on the path to career in the legal profession, according to the Independent.

The news provider states that the profession's traditional image may provide a feeling of security for graduates during the current economic downturn.

However the high cost of legal qualifications needs to be considered before graduates decide which area of law to specialise in, with legal practice and Bar vocational courses costing £11,550 and £14,150 respectively.

The paper reports: "Some areas of law, such as property, have been badly hit by the credit crunch.

"Other areas, including commercial litigation and employment law, look set to receive a boost."

In related news, law firm CMS Cameron McKenna has had to recall hundreds of branded travel socket adapters that it handed out at a recruitment fair after a Cambridge University student was given an electric shock by one of the devices, according to the Lawyer.
