Post-university gap years could get more popular as the number of graduate jobs in London stops growing, employment experts have claimed.
According to the Economist, the general consensus is that the graduate job market will be more difficult for students leaving university in 2009.
Carl Gilleard, of the Association of Graduate Recruiters, told the news provider: "We've had five years of continuous growth in the graduate-jobs market."
According to the periodical, many graduates will put off job-hunting and opt for a year abroad.
Higher Education Careers Services Unit chief executive Mike Hill said: "In 1992, when unemployment reached its highest level since the early 1980s, more than 30 per cent of students went straight back into higher education after graduating."
Mr Hill claimed that universities are likely to see a resurgence of postgraduate students vying to get on courses next year.
