transport for london on recruitment drive
18-Oct-2008

Transport for London on recruitment drive Transport for London is to increase the number of graduate jobs in London as it takes on new staff, it has been reported.

As the authority expands its network with large projects such as Crossrail, it will take on an extra 18,000 full-time staff by 2012, according to CN Plus.

By 2013 that number will increase to 20,000, and the firm will be recruiting graduates across all disciplines including project managers, civil and structural engineers, commercial managers and construction workers.

At the Railway Forum annual conference, Ian Brown, managing director for London Rail at Transport for London, told the news provider: "Basically we need to double our resources."

He added: "There are falling graduate and apprenticeship numbers and implementing this ten-year programme is an important first step."

Transport for London started working on its ten-year recruitment and skills strategy after a report in 2007 by the London Skills and Employment Board showed the group could end up with severe skills shortages.

A compulsory purchase of the Astoria music venue is the latest development in Transport for London's £16 billion Crossrail programme.

The venue is one of 13 buildings around Tottenham Court Road station that will be demolished to make way for the expansion of the station.
