17 Oct 2008

Equality recruitment fair in London University leavers looking for graduate jobs in London, will be interested to hear there will be an employment fair at Canary Wharf on October 29th.

The Grades graduate employment event – which stands for gender, religion, age, disability, ethnicity or sexuality – is an equal opportunities event for people looking for graduate jobs in the city with leading corporations like Lloyds TSB, the BBC and HSBC.

Some thirty big name organisations will be exhibiting at the fair and they will all have vacancies to fill, according to the Independent.

Organiser of the event Tony Olson, who has run the fair for four years, was quick to point out the commitment to diversity brought to the table by the firm's exhibiting, the paper reports.

He told the news provider: "There are still a lot of misconceptions about the type of people recruited by some employers."

"For example, there are certain industries – investment banking, law, business consultancy, technology – that are perceived to be male-dominated."

Mr Olson claimed age discrimination was top of the agenda at this year's Grades, saying: "There are more and more mature students around these days, and they want to know they are talking to a recruiter that's not just after a malleable 20-year-old."

Earlier this year, the independent said that many firms were prioritising the recruitment and retention of under-represented groups.
