Deloitte to boost female recruitment

15 Oct 2008

Deloitte to boost female recruitment Financial services firm Deloitte has pledged to increase the number of female graduates it employs through its recruitment programmes, it has been reported.

Head of employee engagement at the firm Tom Crawford told the Times that despite 57 per cent of graduates being female, Deloitte's intake of female recruits is in its low 40s.

Mr Crawford claimed his company needs to change female graduates' perception of the professional services sector if it is to succeed.

"We court talent and we are open-minded about where we get it from," he said.

Adding: "The broadest range of backgrounds brings the best innovation. We have a relationship with the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme, which reaches out to kids from all sorts of backgrounds."

Deloitte offers on-campus Open Presentations to encourage students to consider a role in the services sector and the company claims it offers graduates a £1,000 interest-free gap year loan if students feel they would benefit from a year away before starting their career.

On acceptance of a job offer at the firm, graduates are entitled to spend the loan on whatever they want during their gap year.
