A former student from the University of Bath has set up a page on social networking site Facebook to allow graduates to showcase their skills.

The GradRoom was designed by Nick Elliot, who graduated with a business administration degree, to offer people leaving university a fresh approach to finding employment.

He stumbled across the idea while talking to friends in the pub and decided to invest in the application.

"We were talking about our dissertations and our own experience of the graduate recruitment process and the idea grew from there," explained Nick, who was formerly a member of the university's entrepreneur group Banter.

"Bath graduates are among the most sought-after students leaving higher education," he added.

More than 600 graduates have signed up to the Facebook site and many high profile recruiters are involved in the project.

Meanwhile, a top accountancy firm in the UK claimed that video CVs were the latest tool available to recruiters to help them reduce the time it takes to shortlist prospective employees.

However, according to Kathy Halliday, a partner at Cobbetts, video CVs could introduce prejudice into the process of drawing up a shortlist.
