'graduates should consider the non-profit sector'
04-Oct-2008

'Graduates should consider the non-profit sector' Graduates should consider working in the charity sector as it provides a large number of job opportunities and job satisfaction, it has been reported.

However, according to the Independent, the more people going for jobs in the sector means leading charities are holding out for top talent and competition is becoming tougher.

Jackie Weston-Davies told the news provider that charitable organisations are not made up of "soft and fluffy do-gooders".

She said that candidates with the right credentials are in with a good chance of finding employment in the sector.

Mrs Weston-Davies told the paper: "In a charity like ours, there are fundraisers, care workers, teachers, campaigners, administrators, PR people – and a lot more besides."

"We are like a mini-local government," she added.

In related news, a new website launched by the Charity Commission allows donors to check how their money is being spent by not-for-profit organisations, reports the Guardian.

Any charity that has an income of more than £500,000 will be listed on the site, with graphs and charts showing how they spend their money and how many volunteers they have working for them.
