retraining workers 'benefits employers'
24-Sep-2008

Retraining workers 'benefits employers' Employers can benefit from re-training their workers, according to new research by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC).

The LSC claims that within the next ten years, two-thirds of jobs in the UK will need skilled workers.

According to life coach Anjula Mutand, this shift in focus will require workers to develop their "portfolio of skills" to keep up with the job market.

Ms Mutanda said: "From an employer's point of view if they are re-skilling their employees it's always a benefit to them at the end of the day because you've got a workforce that is tooled up and ready to go."

In related news, the government is planning to adopt the Danish "tough but tender" welfare system in order to get the long-term unemployed back in jobs, reports the Times.

James Purnell, work and pensions secretary, told the paper that one of the most effective aspects of the Danish system was a negotiated personal contract with binding terms.

According to government figures, there are more than 900,000 people claiming on the state's welfare system, reports the newspaper.
