Financial advisor Deloitte has made it to second place in the Times' Top 100 Graduate Employers list.

Deloitte has occupied the second-place position for three consecutive years, but this year the company has closed the gap on PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which occupies the top spot.

This year there were just seven votes between Deloitte and PwC.

Deloitte beat competition from the BBC, the Civil Service and Accenture and the company was also ranked as the number one graduate employer by nine universities including UCL, Nottingham and Bristol.

Sarah Shillingford, graduate recruitment partner at Deloitte, said: "We are delighted to receive this recognition, which we believe reflects our continuous efforts to make Deloitte the country's top graduate employer."

Deloitte recruits more than 1,400 graduates and undergraduates every year, she added.

In related news, the Times reports that despite the economic downturn, graduate recruitment in the UK is expected to decrease by just one per cent next year.

More than half of the top 100 firm's for graduate recruitment in the UK said they plan to hire a similar number of university leavers next year.
