The Post Office is planning to launch a mobile phone network after its success in the broadband market, according to the Guardian.
With more than half a million home broadband and land line customers one year after it was launched, the Post Office is looking to capitalise on its success with a no-frills mobile phone network, the newspaper reports.
The Post Office's head of telecoms Martin Moran said the company is planning on moving into mobile sometime next year at the earliest as plans have not been fleshed out.
A spokesperson for the mail delivery business told Brand Republic: "It's something we are looking at but still very much in the planning stage."
The news comes as the Post Office cuts its broadband subscription cost and aims to increase its share of the broadband market by half a million users by 2011.
Graduates looking for a broadband deal may be interested to hear that the Post Office has dropped the price of its internet offering by one pound and customers can now pay cash in their local branch for the service.
