Part Time Job And Holiday Job News

celebrity beckons for british youth

Celebrity beckons for British youth British youngsters want to live the Big Brother lifestyle, according to new research by Alliance and Leicester.

The study by the high street bank found that one in seven 18 to 21-year-olds think being a celebrity or socialite is the most attractive career choice available to them.

Working as a vet or nurse was far less attractive to young people polled by the bank, which claimed its research pointed to a move away from careers which involve years of study.

Andy Muddimer, premier 21 current account manager at Alliance & Leicester said: "These days many young people are strongly influenced by the power of celebrity."

"This is understandably appealing to some young people, who may see it as a 'get rich quick' career path," he added.

According to the bank, the three most popular career choices for young people were being in a band (25 per cent), working in the media (24 per cent) and being a celebrity or socialite (14 per cent).

The news comes after research by Kelly Services, which found almost half of students would change what they studied at university if they could.
