New research by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) shows that marketing professionals are paid less than their counterparts in other industry sectors.

The CIM said that marketers are paid less at every tier of the industry from entry-level graduate positions all the way up to management posts.

In its latest marketing salary survey, conducted by Croner Reward, the CIM shows that despite rising bonuses marketing pay still lags behind other employment sectors.

Graduates and junior marketing staff can expect to earn up to £22,000 a year when starting out in the industry, while director's salaries can be as high as £75,000.

But, despite marketing pay increasing on average by 3.3 per cent in the last year, graduates in finance, IT, HR and sales can expect their salaries to be 8.2 per cent higher.

David Thorp, director of research and information at the Chartered Institute of Marketing, told Onrec.com: "It is disappointing to see marketers pay falling behind those of their colleagues in other functions."

"Marketers need to demonstrate the positive value they can bring to their organisation," he added.
