Part Time Job And Holiday Job News

flexible work 'to suffer'
21-Aug-2008

Flexible work 'to suffer' Flexible working could be under threat due to the credit crunch, it has been reported.

Students working for employers who promote flexible working part-time to support their studies could be interested to hear that BP has scrapped its nine-day flexi-work weekend, according to Personneltoday.com.

The employment news website was told by law firm Nabarro that organisations are unlikely to be able to keep offering a range of flexible working arrangements during the current economic climate "while recruitment has been put on ice" and mass redundancies sweep across companies nationwide.

Julie Quinn, employment partner at the law firm, said she doubts the working practise will remain dominant due to the fallout from the credit crunch.

"Many organisations have headcount statistics which do not support part-time working or job sharing. Someone working three days out of five is not three fifths of a full headcount," she explained.

A recent survey by Direct HolidayBookings.co.uk found 46 per cent of Brits get such a bad-case of post-holiday blues that they look for a new job immediately upon their return to the UK.
