Caterer to boost staff

16 Aug 2008

Caterer to boost staff Catering students who are looking for part-time jobs in order to support their studies could be interested to hear a major firm is to increase its HR team by nearly one third, it has been reported.

Elior have announced it will boost its team of 12,000 stressing the department's importance during the economic downturn, according to Personneltoday.com.

Paul Reynolds, human resources director of the firm, told the website a business case outshone the alternative of putting the money into operations and quality assurance roles.

He said taking out HR jobs is the worst thing a company can do in response to a recession.

"The message it sends to the business at large if they move HR is that the business is not interested in its people. I'm bringing in more business partners to give the business more of what it wants," he concluded.

It was reported earlier in the month by the employment news website that Travellodge has pledged to create hundreds of new jobs through 55 new hotels along the nation's coastline.

The move was welcomed by employment minister Stephen Timms who said it showed the economic slow-down had little effect on the UK job market.
