Part Time Job And Holiday Job News

Almost half (48 per cent) of students turn to part-time employment in order to support their studies at university, new data suggests.

Opinion panel Research conducted on behalf of Halifax also found that 18 per cent of students work two part-time jobs in order to pay their way while in education.

Students based in Northern Ireland are most likely to work while at uni as more than three-quarters (77 per cent) said they had jobs with 73 per cent of those in Scotland also working.

The average number of students who work during term-time stands at 41 per cent on average for the UK, with a high of 64 per cent in Northern Ireland and a low of 33 per cent in Wales.

Among the higher earners are those in the West Midlands who rake in an average earning of £59.50 per week as opposed to the lowest paid lot in Wales who acquire £27.70.

Mike Regnier, Head of Banking at Halifax, comments on the finding: "It is vital that students make the most of the finances at this crucial point in their lives and choosing the right bank account needs to be a key consideration for them.

"An account with an attractive zero per cent overdraft rate could prove to be very beneficial."

Meanwhile, earlier in the month a study by Natwest found an increasing number of students are taking up part-time work or holiday jobs to support their time in higher education.
