Student interns impress at the Ritz

Student interns impress at the Ritz Two Yorkshire catering students have impressed bosses at the Ritz after dazzling them with their culinary skills while on a month placement at the prestigious hotel, it has been reported.

Alberto Salas and David Webb, who are both BTEC Hospitality and Catering students at Doncaster College, were hailed as "two of the best" by managers from the world-renowned Ritz and have been offered permanent jobs when they complete their qualifications, according to the Doncaster Star.

Catering students who are set to embark on internships at the five-star hotel could be interested to hear how receptive the establishment is to talented young interns.

David, 19, of Askern, told the publication it was a "mind-blowing" experience and is only just beginning to sink in.

"We did all sorts of things in the kitchens, we prepared meat, vegetables, fish and worked with pastry and the bakery team. We worked extremely hard and it's made me think even more that I'd like to work in the industry," he added.

Gill Parkes, the college's deputy head of business and consumer services, added that the praise from the managers at The Ritz could open the door for other students wanting to work at the hotel.

Meanwhile, the Learning and Skills Council unveiled a new fund last week which is intended to help colleges connect with businesses in innovative ways.
