Mobile phones will be increasingly used to play games on, an industry member has claimed.
Speaking at the Develop conference, Aki Jarvilehto, from Nokia, said innovative games developed with the latest technology will help drive the mobile phones market to be worth 4.2 billion (£3.33 billion) by 2011, according to Develop magazine.
Mr Jarvilehto claimed the industry is moving towards higher production values in games, while there could also be opportunities for developers to self-publish their products.
However, he discouraged mobile phones that have features which have no relevance to the user and claimed innovation is often overused by the industry, the news provider reports.
"The guiding beacon for innovation should always be the consumer. When you are looking to take these technologies into use you stay focused on the consumer, Mr Jarvilehto explained.
He also suggests the mobile phones entertainment market could be broken down into several demographics, including core gamers who see playing as part of their identity and causal gamers, who only play when they need something to fill their time.
In related news, publisher ngmoco has received funding from venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers to develop games which can be played on the Apple iPhone.
