The police are considering introducing a graduate programme which will fast track candidates to senior positions, it has been reported.

According to Personneltoday.com, a green paper entitled 'From the Neighbourhood to the National: Policing our communities together' pointed out that more needs to be done to encourage potential leaders to join the force.

The reports suggested "a new graduate fast-track scheme will be developed by the National Policing Improvement Agency to attract top-quality graduates from leading universities into policing, with the prospect of quick progression to senior ranks for those who merit".

In addition, a national police leadership college will be run alongside the programme, to provide more training to senior officers and take applicants up to the rank of chief officer, the new provider reports.

Meanwhile, Strathclyde police have stepped up recruitment efforts and taken on 112 new officers in its largest-ever intake, according to the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser.
