students 'thinking about clubbing not banking'

Students 'thinking about clubbing not banking' Students who are about to begin university are probably thinking more about their nightlife than their finances, a personal finance expert has commented.

Laura Starkey, a reporter for Fool.co.uk, acknowledged that when she was waiting to go to university, she thought more about the people she was likely to meet there than how her money might work.

For many young people, higher education is the first time they have been in charge of their own money, meaning working out how to budget and plan ahead is a vital skill they have to learn quickly, she continued.

Choosing the ideal student account can help with this, Ms Starkey added.

"You should only consider an account laden with freebies and special offers if you know you’ll be able to stay within the lower interest-free overdraft limits they offer," she recommended.

Recently, HSBC recommended students take on a part-time job to help fund their studies.

Working, it explained, helps students make money and also keeps them busy so there are fewer chances to spend it.
