ceos 'can be spotted early in career'
29-Jul-2008

CEOs 'can be spotted early in career' Students who plan to become a chief executive officer (CEO) during their career may be interested to learn the traits of a future boss can be spotted early.

A study from Personnel Decision International, entitled Pulse on Leaders, looked at senior executives and CEOs to identify the traits they have in common, reports Personnel Today.

It discovered CEOs tend to have high energy levels, an instinct to take charge and the ability to see through complexity, in addition to a lack of passive-aggressive behaviour and avoidance of micro-managing.

Simon Callow, managing director at the consultancy firm, told the news provider: "[CEOs] need to thrive on hectic and demanding schedules and not depend on downtime to recharge."

"But you have to want to be at the top to be a successful CEO - this is not a role you want to fall into accidentally."

He also revealed that futures CEOs tend to have gained some experience in high-risk/high-return situations or have high-achieving history with their firm.

Earlier this year, Personnel Decision International encouraged firms to coach young highflyers, such as those holding their first graduate jobs, to ensure they achieve their full potential.
