entrepreneurs 'have funding options'

Entrepreneurs 'have funding options' Graduates thinking of embarking on a career as an entrepreneur should be aware that funding for their venture could depend on which sector they plan to enter.

The National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship (NCGE) revealed that there is "lot of funding available" for new businesses, but the amount a graduate can expect is determined by several factors.

Lorna Collins, director of the NCGE-delivered Flying Start Programme, said there is not one central pot of money for graduates looking to become an entrepreneur, but rather a number of smaller grants, funds and loans.

"However, these are often very targeted and it depends on the amount of money you want to borrow and the kind of business you want to borrow it for," she explained.

According to the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, small and medium-sized businesses account for 58.9 per cent of the UK's employment.

The NCGE was formed in 2004 to support graduate careers as entrepreneurs, as well as promoting a culture of enterprise in the UK's higher education system.
