Scottish service sector grows Those seeking student jobs in Scotland could be interested to discover the country's hotel and catering sector has grown by 2.6 per cent in the first quarter of the year.

New figures from the Scottish government show other sectors also experienced growth in the first three months of the year, suggesting graduate recruitment could be taking off in these areas.

Real estate and business services saw an increase of 2.4 per cent, while 'other services', which include leisure, experienced a three per cent growth.

Other sectors which grew over the period include manufacturing, chemicals and man-made fibres (2.2 per cent) and health services (3.6 per cent), which could be encouraging to those looking for graduate jobs.

However, the banking sector saw a 10.9 per cent decrease, while textiles, footwear, leather and clothing declined by 3.4 per cent.

Commenting on the figures, Scottish cabinet secretary for finance and sustainable growth John Swinney said: "These figures provide further evidence of continuing resilience in the Scottish economy.

"Last week's labour market statistics showed rising employment, record low unemployment and higher activity rates."
