HMRC staff morale low, says report Students working part-time for HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to support their studies could be interested to hear staff morale is being damaged by ongoing changes, it has been reported.

A new report by the National Audit Office (NAO) found after 18 months of the programme, aimed at transforming the government department, the changes have dampened its workers' morale, according to Personneltoday.com.

The HMRC plans to spend £2.7 billion over three years in order to improve its efficiency and make it more customer-focused - in order to achieve savings to the tune of £11.5 billion.

According to the report, after £851 million of changes so far - which in turn have made some £2.4 billion of savings - morale is at "a low ebb".

"The department needs to more actively demonstrate the benefits to its staff and manage the expectations of customers as many of the improvements for them are scheduled for 2011 and beyond," the report said.
