A new government report highlights the gap between ethnic minorities and the general population in employment, one body claims.
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (Rec) revealed the House of Commons' Public Accounts Committee's report - entitled Increasing Employment Rates for Ethnic Minorities - suggests a gap of 14.2 per cent between minorities and the rest of the UK.
Students from ethnic groups looking for temp work to support their studies could be interested to hear the findings of this survey, which suggests temporary work proves to be an important stepping stone for their communities.
Anne Fairweather, the Rec's head of public policy, said the employment gap is still "extremely high".
"Interestingly, around 12 per cent of temporary workers are from an ethnic minority - much higher than the UK average of seven per cent," she added.
Agencies offer a more flexible recruitment process meaning people from diverse backgrounds are more likely to find work, she concluded.
Meanwhile, last month the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development urged the government to promote the business need for diversity when updating discrimination law to ensure progress can be made.
