Students who work part-time for local authoritiesaffected by the recent industrial action could be interested to hear their employers are set for further negotiations, it has been reported.
Local government employers will reconvene negotiations with trade unions after a week of strikes by workers following a pay dispute, according to Personneltoday.com.
At least 100,000 members of the Unite and Unison unions took part in two-day strikes last week after rejecting a below-inflation pay off of 2.45 per cent.
The report adds the walk out forced nearly 700 schools and museums to close across the country.
Jim Savage, the Public Sector People Managers' Association leader on pay and reward, told the website employers are committed to further dialogue regardless of the action taken.
"There's a desire to find a settlement and employers have already asked to get back to the table, so it's up to the unions now," he added.
He concluded that inflation - which rose to 3.8 per cent last month, according to figures from the Office of National Statistics - is making the negotiations difficult as more than money is at stake.
Last week, Unison general secretary Dave Prentis claimed local authorities could afford pay rises through billions of pounds of unused reserves accumulated through efficiency savings.
