BT is planning the UK's largest ever investment in super-fast broadband.
The telecoms giant last week announced plans to roll out fibre-based, super-fast broadband to as many as ten million homes by 2012.
Students who like surfing the net both for social reasons as well as to research their university work could be interested to hear BT is introducing super-fast broadband connections.
In a £1.5 billion programme, a range of services will be delivered with top speeds of up to 100 Mb per second with the potential for speeds of more than 1,000 Mb in future.
BT chief executive Ian Livingston said broadband has boosted the nation's economy and is now a part of everybody's lives.
"We now want to make a step-change in broadband provision which will offer faster speeds than ever before. This marks the beginning of a new chapter in Britain's broadband story," he added.
The company believes the total expenditure for this venture is to exceed £3.1 billion.
Meanwhile, earlier in the month Apple's new iPhone caused hysteria on the UK's highstreets as people queued up to get hold of the new handsets.
