Students who work part-time for Barclays to support their studies could be interested to hear the employer is the first to sign up to a new facial discrimination awareness campaign, it has been reported.
Charity Changing Faces claims that nine out of ten people are prejudiced towards those with facial disfigurements, according to Personneltoday.com.
It adds more than 540,000 people in the UK have significant facial disfigurements and its new Face Equality at Work campaign aims to tackle the discrimination these individuals' experience, both as employees and customers.
John Varley, chief executive of the Barclays group, told the website as a business leader he is aware of the battle to recruit the best talent and it is imperative to have an inclusive work environment where all staff are viewed as a good employer.
Chief executive of Changing Faces, James Partridge, added he is delighted the financial giant is showing real commitment to include those with facial disfigurements.
"I hope this will encourage other companies to commit to face equality in their organisations," he concluded.
It was reported by the website earlier in the month that employment relations minister Pat McFadden told HR professionals more employment laws could follow to protect employees.
