Good CVs 'lead to higher salaries'

01 Jul 2008

Good CVs 'lead to higher salaries' Having a good CV can lead to an additional five per cent in a basic salary, new research has found.

A survey by iProfile.org revealed that almost a quarter of employers are prepared to pay as much 15 per cent more to make sure they get the right candidate, Personnel Today reports.

CV specialist Karl Gregory told the news provider: "Achievement amnesia is a common and potentially costly problem, and addressing this issue could significantly boost people's chances of getting through to the interview stage, as well as getting the salary they deserve."

Mr Gregory added that people often undersell their achievements.

The poll of 1,000 job seekers and 200 employers also found that 71 per cent of people spend two hours or less writing their CVs.

Most people do not keep their CVs up-to-date and only revise them when they are applying for a job.

However, the research also revealed that those who write vague points on their CV are likely to be rejected by three quarters of recruiters.

In related news, Trinity Mirror has cancelled its sponsorship of two places on the graduate recruitment scheme which was to start this summer, according to Press Gazette.

The newspaper group cited the current economic slowdown as the reason for its decision.
