The internet has provided students with another teacher resource into the learning environment, one trade body has said.
According to the British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA), pupils are becoming more media savvy which is providing them with a wealth of information as well as generating a platform for discussion.
Ray Barker, the director of BESA, said through the regional broadband consortia schools have internet connections which are used to encourage pupils to research the learning activity online.
"The arrival of the internet into everyone's lives has introduced another teacher resource into the learning environment the information that can be sourced provides a wealth of information and also generates a platform for discussion," he added.
According to a recent report by regulator Ofcom, children are among the most enthusiastic and engaged groups in society in terms of their consumption of a wide range of media.
Its report on UK children's media literacy found 94 per cent of youngsters polled are confident they will always find what they are looking for online.
The BESA is a trade association that represents more than 300 educational suppliers in the UK.
Meanwhile, a recent thinkbroadband.com survey found connection speeds in the capital are faster than anywhere else in the country.
