new report highlights pay
27-Jun-2008

New report highlights pay The higher education workforce has enjoyed the best public sector wage rises in the last six years, one new report has said.

A report – called Conditions of Employment in Higher Education – by the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) revealed highlights the benefits of the sector.

Students working towards their PGCE who want to teach in Higher Education could be encouraged to hear some of the findings of the report which paints an attractive picture of the teaching profession.

Pay in the sector has increased by at least 30 per cent between 2001 and 2007 and the majority of staff now works between 35 and 37 fixed hours per week.

Bill Wakeham, UCEA chairman, said there had been considerate moves in recent years to recognise contributions made by staff through the means of enhanced elements of an overall reward package.

There is a great deal of evidence to suggest that the total reward package for HE staff is certainly as good as, and in some respects better than, other parts of public services and the private sector," he added.
