Govt pledges £112m to training The government will inject some £112 million into a new scheme to help develop hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sector employers in England.

According to sector skills council People 1st, the money will come on the back of £100 million already agreed with the announcement of the National Skills Academy meaning Gordon Brown's government's total fund to improve training stands at £212 million.

The council's chief executive, Brian Wisdom, said an increasing number of firms are realising the need to invest in the best staff.

Students working part time to support their studies could be interested to hear the government is committing extra fund to provide training to workers in England.

John Denham, the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills, said the government is committed to working closely with the sector to help it attract train and retain quality staff.

"This compact will ensure that employers will have access to flexible, world-class training tailored to the specific needs of their business, delivered when and where they need it," he added.
