Three local authorities have become the first to introduce total reward statements to their staff, it has been reported.
Flexible benefit advisor Vebnet is working with the councils to provide their 60,000 public sector staff to improve the perception of the poor pay and benefits, according to Personnel Today.
Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire councils are to provide each member of their workforce a total reward statement to reinforce the value of the employee's worth to their employer.
Students working on an internship for either of the three local authorities or any other that could roll out the scheme in the coming year could be pleased to hear they will be receiving such a statement that will underline their worth to the employer.
Gill Hibbard, corporate director of people and policy at Buckinghamshire county council, told the publication it was important for the local authorities to use such a tool to show staff how important they are especially at a time of below-inflation pay rises.
"Councils need to look at other ways of holding on to their staff and getting them to think about what makes them great employers," she added.
Meanwhile, the Independent reported last week that Lancaster University revealed summer placements ad internships are an "invaluable" way for students to gain hands-on experience.
