According to the Higher Education Statistics Agency's latest figures, the total number of enrolments at Britain's Higher Education Institutes exceeded 2.36 million in 2006/7, up by one per cent from the previous year.

There was a one per cent increase in the number of first class degrees attained as nearly 320,000 were awarded of which 57 per cent were to women.

Established in 1972, Graduate Prospects works alongside prominent official bodies in the higher education field to bring together students, graduates and recruiters.

It revealed last week the growth of the internet has opened many doors to recently trained people looking to kick-start their careers.
