Online recruitment 'suits 21st century' Online employment services will suit members of the Facebook generation looking for jobs, one expert has said.

Graduate Prospects revealed networking is also a "very useful source" of employment for those seeking jobs.

Jayne Rowley, publishing director for the higher education body, said: "The more resources a graduate can identify, the more choice they are giving themselves."

"The Facebook generation will feel entirely comfortable engaging with employers [online]," she added.

According to the Higher Education Statistics Agency's latest figures, the total number of enrolments at Britain's Higher Education Institutes exceeded 2.36 million in 2006/7, up by one per cent from the previous year.

Of these, more than 1.4 million were full-time and 45 per cent of these were in science subjects.

There was a one per cent increase in the number of first class degrees attained as nearly 320,000 were awarded of which 57 per cent were to women.

Established in 1972, Graduate Prospects works alongside prominent official bodies in the higher education field to bring together students, graduates and recruiters.

It revealed last week the growth of the internet has opened many doors to recently trained people looking to kick-start their careers.
