Mobile broadband via USB is becoming increasingly more widespread, new research suggests.
A latest study by Top 10 Broadband revealed the technology is enjoying a booming popularity due to a drop in the cost of data making it more accessible.
Jessica McArdle, the website's spokeswoman, said as mobile broadband becomes cheaper and data packages become faster, the mobile broadband market is no longer seen as a luxury.
She continued that the sudden boom in the use of the technology is similar to the way mobile phones suddenly became popular in the mid nineties.
Mobile phone operators could be offering dongles with standard deals as well as fixed phone deals as early as 2009, she added.
"Competition is reaching its zenith in the mobile broadband market," she concluded.
Students who like to access the internet on their laptops through USB broadband connections could be interested to hear the service is tipped to become even better and eventually adopted in the mainstream.
