There are now 40 credit cards on the market that offer zero per cent balance transfers, new research suggests.
Students who like to look for the best deals when choosing a credit card could be interested to hear that moneysupermarket.com has revealed the UK market is inundated with offers of zero per cent balance transfers of 12 months or longer.
Steve Willey, head of credit cards at the website, said Virgin, Capital One and Barclaycard were long regarded the "fore-runners" in the balance-transfer market.
They are still leading the pack with deals that offer 15 and 14-month zero per cent transfers, he added.
"All of this is great news for consumers looking for a new credit card to transfer a balance. However, the recent tightening of lending criteria by many lenders means all but those with the most gleaming credit profiles are accepted," he concluded.
Meanwhile, esure Home Insurance recently warned students going to Glastonbury and other summer festivals to make sure they only take one credit card with them and protect it against theft by keeping it with them at all times so it is not stolen.
