Slow computers add to the stress and frustration suffered by employees in the workplace, one expert has said.

Clare Evans, a time management specialist, revealed that working days are made even more frustrating by delays caused as staff have to wait for computers to boot up and perform tasks.

"It's estimated that there are an extra 30 hours in a year that are spent waiting for PCs, which is a huge amount of time – it's nearly a whole extra working week," she added.

Students working on internships who are fed up of waiting for their PCs to boot up could be interested to hear that employers are being urged to address the problem.

A survey by the TechGuys found the annoyance caused by inefficient PCs has led to one million broken monitors, one in five people hitting their desk and one in 20 hitting something so hard they hurt themselves.

The majority (56 per cent) of those polled get frustrated within ten seconds of having to wait for a PC to perform a task and for 1.8 million people two seconds is long enough to make then feel frustrated.

It added that 2.5 million people in the UK waste 25 minutes waiting for their computer to perform a task.
