Drivers are bargain hunters when looking for car insurance, new research has found.
A survey of motorists (repetition) by the Fair Investment Company has found that more than half (57 per cent) said the cost of insurance is the most important factor when looking for cover.
This was nearly three times the amount that said the level of cover was paramount, as 19 per cent revealed this was their priority.
It also found that breakdown cover, discounted rate for partners and low excess were of equal value to voters as they all received two per cent.
Some aspects of car insurance were deemed no value among those polled, these include no claims discount and driving other cars.
James Caldwell, director of the website, said: "Motorists should be careful choosing their car insurance by price alone, the cheapest car insurance is not always the best and there are other aspects to be taken into consideration."
He advised student motorists shopping around for cover to compare deals on policy features as well as price.
Meanwhile, Click4Gap.co.uk revealed this week that guaranteed asset protection was available for all cars and not just "brand new" ones.
