Students who are considering applying for teacher training courses following the completion of their studies are being told they are not as difficult to finance as other post-grad courses.

The Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) revealed that funding is not guaranteed for post-grad diplomas and masters courses but is for PGCEs.

Elspeth Farrar, communication director for AGCAS, said: "Financially, it is not as difficult as doing other areas of further study, where you would probably have to pay tuition fees."

She added that there are financial incentives to doing a PGCE and the financial situation for trainee teachers is better than it has ever been because of bursary schemes in shortage areas.

According to the Training and Development Agency for Schools' newly-qualified teacher survey 2007, 88 per cent of trainees were more than happy with their overall training, rating it as good or very good.

Nearly three-quarters (71 per cent) of those polled said their training prepared them to establish and maintain a good standard of behaviour in the classroom.
