The government needs to extend flexible working rights to all employees, one industry firm has said.

Following new government plans announced this week that entitle an additional 4.5 million workers to the right to request more flexible working patterns, Regus has said this is not enough.

The flexible workplace solutions provider revealed that not providing staff with the choice could prove costly and potentially divisive for firms, according to Online Recruitment Magazine.

Students currently working part-time to support their studies could be interested to hear that a leading industry firm is calling for more workers to be entitled to flexible working as it could result in them being allowed to work from home also.

Kurt Mroncz, a spokesman for the firm, told the publication the right to flexible working is at the top of "employees' agendas".

"With growing concern about work-life balance and the environmental impact of the daily commute, we're seeing increasing demand for alternatives which allow employees to work flexibly, whether from home or from a serviced office near to their house," he added.

In related news, Recruiter magazine reported this week that a new Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development/KPMG survey found that more than two-thirds of firms refuse to allow their staff to work from home.
