productive staff preferred, says report

Productive staff preferred, says report Organisations favour productivity over long service, one new industry survey has revealed.

A new Alexander Mann Solutions report found firms prefer a competent worker to one that is loyal, Human Resources magazine reports.

Students working on internships this summer could be interested to know that employers are more concerned with their performance than length of service - suggesting they could earn themselves a job if they work hard enough.

The study revealed 44 per cent of employers ranked productivity as the most important attribute they look for in staff.

Jeremy Tipper, the firm's director, told the publication: "In the modern workplace, time served is no longer a factor in assessing an employee's worth or performance."

He added "performing above and beyond employer expectations" and adopting a hands-on approach to seek out new opportunities were traits likely to result in workers being recognised as high-performers and considered for promotion.

Initiative, engagement and fitting into the organisation's culture are the next most important qualities according to those polled.

Leadership skills were ranked as most important when considering a member of staff for management.

Meanwhile, it was revealed by a Badenoch and Clark survey last week that businesses were favouring temps and part-time staff instead of a full-time workforce.
