engineering graduates 'sought after'
19-May-2008

Engineering graduates 'sought after' Graduates in some sectors are highly sought after as companies are in "vast competition" to recruit them, according to one expert.

The Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) has revealed there is a shortage of graduates in certain areas such as engineering.

Elspeth Farrar, communications director at AGCAS, said that in certain areas "like engineering", a very specific degree is needed to enter the profession.

"In that kind of situation there is vast competition amongst employers to recruit students because there is just fewer of them available."

Students on engineering degrees could be very interested to hear that once they graduate they could be highly sought after by a number of potential employers.

Ms Farrar added that though there are definite shortages in some subjects, others are oversubscribed and those tend to be the competitive area where employers have a wide range of applicants.

A recent survey by Executive Connections found that one third (33 per cent) of companies were seeking to recruit graduates in 2007 compared to eight per cent in 2007.
