national work from home day today
16-May-2008

National Work From Home day today Up to five million workers are expected to work from home today (May 15th) for National Work From Home day.

Students prefer to work from home could be interested to hear that due to technological advancements and the internet, some 3.5 million people in the UK - one out of every eight - work from home rather than the office.

HR consultant Sandra Beale believes the growth is due to the increased use of the internet, email, broadband, mobile phones and wireless technology facilitating the ability to work wherever people choose.

OmniBoss research suggested this week that bandwidth requirements will more than double in the next five years.

The survey, released on Monday, also revealed that one in five executives expect their bandwidth requirements to grow by 150 per cent or more.

Michael Davies, product director for Viatel, the survey's sponsor, said: "IT managers need to make sure that they don't neglect their bandwidth or networks could grind to a halt."

Work Wise UK, the organisers of National Work From Home day, campaigns for flexible working, condensed hours and nine-day fortnights.

Chief executive Phil Flaxton said: "The benefits of working from home, even occasionally, are now widely accepted."
