The manufacturer of the iPhone has announced that it has sold out of both types of the phone at its online store, it has emerged.
Earlier in the month, mobile operator O2 announced that many of its stores had sold out of the 8GB models after slashing its price by £100 in April.
A spokeswoman for Apple told Bloomberg that the firm "was currently out of stock" of both the 8GB and 16GB models but refused to disclose when stocks would be replenished.
The news provider speculated that the shortage suggested chief executive Steve Jobs may be readying a new model to be unveiled during his speech at Apple's developer conference next month (June 9th).
Students who like to listen to music on their mobile phones may be interested to hear that a new iPhone could be on the cards.
The iPhone was first released in the UK on November 9th 2007 after being introduced five months earlier in the US the company sold almost four million handsets last year and predicted sales of a further ten million devices this year.
